The Barbados National Trust is one of the oldest   heritage preservation societies in the Caribbean, founded as an NGO in 1961 to “preserve the unique heritage of our island home, be it historic buildings, places of natural beauty or the island’s flora and fauna”. In its 40 plus years of existence the Trust has restored many historic sites, now open to the public and visited by thousands annually. In addition, the National Trust administers many other programmes, especially the popular Sunday Hikes and the annual Open House Programme.
